A 29-point 4th-quarter by the Connersville Spartans turned a close game into a 63-36 victory over Muncie Central on Jan. 6 at Spartan Bowl.
CHS improves to 12-3, the Bearcats dropped to 3-8.
In the opening game of a doubleheader, Connersville’s Lady Spartans improved to 8-11 with a 47-38 victory over Guerin Catholic.
The Spartan boys led 34-28 after three quarters before exploding in the final 8 minutes. The 29-point outburst is the most points CHS has scored during a period this season.
Eleven Spartans put points on the scoreboard, as the team shot 20-for-38 from the floor — 14-of-20 2-point shots and 6-of-18 3s.
Noah Belt tallied 13 to lead the way, Dalton Lee and 6-6 sophomore Jacob Brown also reached double figures, scoring 10 apiece.
Brown was 5-for-5 from the floor.
Braxton Revalee made 3-of-4 treys to score 9 points, Garrett Silcott notched 7, Clay Garrison 4, Dalton Ailes 3, Drew Sherck, Ethan Smith and Tyler Combs had 2 each and Dylan Logan tallied 1 point on a free throw. CHS was 17-of-21 from the foul line.
Brown grabbed 7 rebounds and blocked 1 shot, Silcott had 5 rebounds, 3 assists and a pair of steals, Belt had 4 assists, Lee had 3, Sherck had 2 rebounds and a steal.
Freshman Jonah Graham saw his first varsity action for CHS. Graham did not score but grabbed a rebound, dished an assist and drew 1 of 3 charging fouls the Spartans recorded.
The Jr. Spartans defeated Muncie Central’s JV, 48-30.
Head coach Kerry Brown’s Spartans are idle Friday but travel to Batesville Saturday to challenge the Bulldogs (6-5) in Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference action.
Connersville has won 23 consecutive EIAC games. Batesville, 0-2 in conference play so far, plays at Franklin County (4-8, 2-2) Friday in an EIAC matchup.
After overcoming a first-quarter deficit, head coach Michael Thompson’s Lady Spartans led the rest of the way in their 9-point win over Guerin Catholic.
Marley Smith scored 15 points to top Connersville, Jessica Beckman also reached double digits, finishing with 14.
Lauren Thompson had 9 points, Elise Bottomley added 4, Sarah Griffin had 3 and Tori Bostwick scored 2.
The Lady Spartans play at Pendleton Heights (12-7) Friday night in non-conference play. PH plays at New Palestine Thursday night.
