The high school football season is back and ready to roll in Indiana, with the Connersville Spartans opening the campaign on the road tonight against a longtime rival.
CHS will tangle with Richmond at Lyboult Field (7 p.m.), with hopes of bouncing back from a loss in last season’s season opener. A year ago, the Red Devils left CHS Field with a 27-0 victory.
Head coach Adam Kelly’s team finished 2-8 last season, with both wins coming in decisive fashion. The Spartans blanked Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference foe South Dearborn, 40-0, and raced past Indianapolis Broad Ripple, 43-6.
Pendleton Heights ended Connersville’s season with a 31-7 win in sectional play.
Kelly is 16-35 in his 6th year as the CHS coach. Richmond has a new head coach, Ibrahim ‘Abe’ Tawfeek, who was 10-10 in two years at Indianapolis Northwest.
CHS hosts Franklin County on Aug. 25 in an EIAC matchup. The Wildcats, who finished 7-4 last season, play at New Castle tonight.
If you can’t make it to Richmond you can listen to the action on Kmix 106.9 fm featuring announcers Sam Harvey and Dave Pollard. Kmix 106.9 can be accessed via the iTunes media player.
