Connersville senior standout Grant Smith is one of seven candidates on this week’s ballot for Indiana’s boys high school basketball ‘Player of the Week’ on the popular website PrepHoops.com.
Also on the ballot are Hank Johnson of Waldron, Will Moreau of Leo, Branson Combs of Evansville Memorial, Alex King of Columbus North, Chance Coyle of Bloomington South and Maurice Knight of Frankton.
In Connersville’s road wins over Mt. Vernon (Fortville) and Indianapolis Manual last weekend, Smith scored 47 points, hauled down 25 rebounds, dished 11 assists and played some blanket coverage-type defense.
Smith’s points came in an extremely efficient manner. The 6-6 wingman made 13-of-17 shots he attempted (76 percent) — 8-of-10 2-point tries and 5-of-7 from 3-point land. Smith also made 16-of-19 foul shots (84 percent), including 13-of-15 in the Spartans’ 88-85 quadruple overtime win over Mt. Vernon.
Sophomore Noah Belt made 13-of-14 free throws against the Marauders.
