After a week void of competition, the Connersville Spartans will play two games today in the 10th-annual Bob Wettig Tournament in Richmond.

CHS will try to make it eight straight wins when it takes on Indianapolis Tindley at 1:30 p.m. in Pool C play at Tiernan Center. At 8:30 p.m., the Spartans will go against Class 4A Portage. Tindley is 4-2 and rated 5th in Class A. Portage is 1-5.

Tindley is coming off a 77-61 loss to 4A No. 5 Fort Wayne North on Dec. 23. The loss ended a 3-game winning streak for the Tigers — Class A’s No. 1 team in the Sagarin ratings and 78th overall (78.35 points, 71.19 strength of schedule/107th).

Head coach Kerry Brown’s Spartans are rated 39th in Sagarin’s Class 4A ratings and 49th overall (82.69 points, 68.55 strength of schedule/140th).

Connersville is expected to utilize its patient offensive strategy while Tindley will try to counter with a fast-paced attack that produces 71.3 points per game.

“They’re quick, they’re athletic and they get after it all over the entire floor,” Brown said. “They have a lot of weapons and (Eric) Hunter is a Division I talent.”

A 6-2 junior, Hunter averages 24.8 points and 8.2 rebounds to lead the Tigers. K.J. Coleman averages 13.2 points and 3.6 rebounds, 5-11 Hunter White contributes 12.6 points and 5.4 rebounds, Joe Johnson averages 5.6 points and Chris Murff chips in 4.7 points and 4 boards. All are juniors. Freshman Sincere McMahon scores 6.8 points an outing.

Hunter scored 23 points in Tindley’s loss to Fort Wayne North, White had 16.
