Connersville looks for win at Lawrenceburg

The Connersville Spartans will try to win their third football game of the season tonight, but the task won’t be easy. CHS (2-5) will travel south to Lawrenceburg to tangle with the Class 3A Tigers’ on their new field. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m.

Lawrenceburg (6-1) is rated No. 9 in the Indiana Football Coaches Association poll and No. 16 in the Associated Press poll.

The Spartans will try to bounce back from a 56-15 loss to No. 3 East Central (6-1), a game that counted in the Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference Class 4A division. Lawrenceburg is coming off a 48-22 EIAC win over Rushville.

Connersville could not stop East Central running back Logan Storie last week. The durable junior rushed for 269 yards on 10 carries and scored 6 touchdowns (5 rushing and a 39-yard pass reception).

Dalton Dubois rushed for 90 yards on 24 carries to lead the Spartans, who gained 173 yards on the ground as a team. Christian McHenry had 46 yards on 11 carries, Alec Atkins gained 28 on 4 totes.

Donovan Foreman, CHS’ top rusher with 439 yards, was injured during the East Central game and finished with 4 yards on 3 carries. McHenry has gained 404 yards, Dubois 219 and Mason Sullenberger 125.

Sullenberger, the leading receiver for coach Adam Kelly’s team (209 yards), threw for a touchdown against the Trojans, hooking up with Christopher Dudas on a 74-yard option pass. Sullenberger also was injured during the East Central game. 

Dudas is the team’s second leading pass catcher, nabbing 5 for 130 yards and 4 TDs.

Utilizing a strong passing attack and potent ground game, Lawrenceburg averages 42.1 points and 428 yards a contest.

Jordan Houze has caught 17 passes for 471 yards, Ben Murphy has 23 receptions and 377 yards.

Austin Bowling has piled up 1,296 rushing yards on 164 carries. Quarterback Reid Strobl has completed 56 passes in 89 attempts for 1,180 yards.
