Rushville beats Connersville for first win of season
Spartans fall to 1-4
The Rushville Lions took an early 14-0 lead and withstood a second-half rally by host Connersville to record a 20-14 victory Friday night at CHS Field. The win is the Lions’ first this season (1-4), the loss drops the Spartans to 1-4.
Connersville tied things at 14 with approximately 6 minutes left in the game, after Mason Sullenberger returned an interception over 90 yards for a score, and quarterback Dalton Light connected with Dalton Dubois for the 2-point conversion.
Rushville regained the lead with 3:20 to play on a 35-yard rushing TD by Keith Yager, but the Lions missed the PAT kick, leaving the score 20-14. Connersville couldn’t move the ball, the Lions took over on downs and ran out the clock to earn the hard-fought 6-point victory.
Donovan Foreman rushed for 110 yards and a touchdown for CHS. Foreman has gained 351 rushing yards in the past two games.
Connersville plays at Class 2A Indianapolis Broad Ripple on Friday (7 p.m.). The Rockets (1-4) were blasted by Class 3A No. 7 Guerin Catholic, 60-8, in their last outing. Rushville plays at Class 2A Lapel (3-2) in a non-conference game.
