If the state of Indiana is going to be represented in the Final 4 of the men’s NCAA basketball tournament, the lone hopeful will have to play much better tonight than it did the last time it faced its Elite Eight opponent.
Notre Dame (24-11), a No. 6 seed, will try to get past No. 1 seed North Carolina (31-6) in the East Region championship at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. The game begins at 8:49 p.m. and can be seen on TBS.
The Fighting Irish beat North Carolina, 80-76, during the regular season but were blown out by the Tar Heels, 78-47, in the semifinals of the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament on March 11.
Notre Dame beat Wisconsin, 61-56, Friday to advance to the championship game. The Irish have had to overcome second half deficits in all three of their tournament games.
North Carolina earned its spot in tonight’s game by defeating Indiana, 101-86. The Hoosiers end the season 27-7.
Virginia beat Iowa State, 84-71, Friday. Syracuse edged Gonzaga, 63-60.
