The 8,100-seat Tiernan Center in Richmond will host two semistate championships next Saturday, including a matchup between the team that eliminated Connersville and Class 4A’s No. 1 team.
The Southport Cardinals (22-6), who defeated the Spartans, 42-35, Saturday at Southport Fieldhouse, play top-ranked New Albany (25-1) at 3 p.m.
New Albany beat Bloominton South, 73-66 in overtime, and Evansville Reitz, 84-70, to win the Seymour regional championship.
The winner advances to the 4A state title game where it will play either No. 5 Warsaw (25-1) or 4th-rated McCutcheon (27-3). Those schools will play at Lafayette Jefferson at 6 p.m.
The first semistate game in Richmond (1 p.m.) is a Class 2A contest between Indianapolis Howe (No. 7, 22-7) and Providence (19-7).
Howe defeated No. 4 Northeastern, 55-53, to win the Greenfield-Central regional.
