The season is over for Connersville native Tierra Huntsman and her Gardner-Webb University teammates.
The Runnin’ Bulldogs were defeated by Presbyterian College, 58-51, Friday in the quarterfinals of the Big South Conference Tournament.
GWU, which finishes the season 19-12, never got untracked from the field, making just 13-of-48 shots (27.1 percent) and 2-of-15 3-pointers (13.3 percent).
Huntsman was 1-for-8 from the floor, a 3-pointer in the second quarter, but made 8 free throws in 10 attempts to score 11 points.
The redshirt sophomore also had 7 rebounds, an assist, a steal and a career-high 3 blocked shots, a total that helped GWU block 12 shots, a new Big South Tournament record.
Senior standout Candace Brown tallied a game-high 21 points and grabbed 9 rebounds to lead Gardner-Webb. Olivia Parker finished with 13 points, 12 rebounds and 6 blocks. It was the senior forward’s 15th double-double of the season.
Taylor Petty, the Big South Freshman of the Year, scored 14 points to lead the Blue Hose. Reserve forward Salina Virola added 12 points.
Presbyterian was beaten in the semifinals, 65-55, by tournament host and top-seed UNC Asheville. Asheville (26-6) won the conference championship Sunday afternoon, defeating Liberty University, 64-62 in double-overtime.
