The Connersville Spartans started fast and never slowed down Thursday night, defeating host East Central, 52-33, in a key Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference game.

Tyler Billups scored 17 points, all in the 1st half, grabbed 3 rebounds and recorded 2 steals to top CHS. Beau Isaacs added 13 points, pulled down a game-high 12 boards and dished 3 assists.

Connersville, 15-5 overall, remains perfect in conference play at 5-0 with two EIAC games to play. CHS hosts Franklin County (3-1) next Friday before traveling to Lawrenceburg (1-4) the following night.

The Wildcats host East Central next Saturday and play at South Dearborn on Feb. 23.

Greensburg is 4-2, and will play its final conference game at East Central on Feb. 29.

Rushville, which lost to Batesville Thursday night, 41-38 in double overtime, is 4-3 and has completed conference play.

Isaacs scored 5 quick points to open the scoring against East Central. With Grant Smith getting two baskets, including a dunk, Garrett Silcott slipping inside for a layin and Billups scoring 7 consecutive points, including the 1st of three 3-pointers he made, the Spartans had a comfortable 18-5 lead after 1 quarter.

Billups scored 10 of the team’s 12 points in the 2nd quarter to help CHS take a 30-18 lead at the half. It’s the 3rd-straight game Billups has scored all of his points in the opening half, and the senior has led Connersville’s scoring in all 3 games.

Silcott and Chandler Graves teamed up — buckets- and assists-wise — to account for 7 straight points to open the 3rd period as CHS pulled away, allowing head coach Kerry Brown to utilize the Spartans reserves.

Grant Smith and Silcott both scored 9 points, with Smith snagging 4 rebounds and blocking a pair of shots. Silcott registered a game-high 5 assists.

Graves finished with 2 points and 3 assists and Noah Belt tallied 2 points. Dalton Huffman, Braxton Revalee, Wes Smith, Hunter Sullenbarger and Dalton Lee played but did not score.

York McCory scored 13 points to pace East Central, Alex Campbell added 9 on a trio of 3s.
