Sophomore guard GeAnna Luaulu-Summers scored 37 points, including 19-of-22 free throw shooting, to help the University of Pacific defeat Gardner-Webb University, 84-77, Saturday afternoon at Paul Porter Arena.
It is the first loss for G-W (4-1), which got superb performances from former Connersville Lady Spartan Tierra Huntsman and senior stalwart Olivia Parker.
Huntsman made 6-of-11 field goal attempts, 3-of-6 3-pointers and 6-of-9 free throws to score a career-high 21 points. The CHS graduate also had 7 rebounds and 2 assists before fouling out.
Parker amassed 28 points and 14 rebounds for the Runnin’ Bulldogs, with senior Candace Brown finishing with 11 points, 8 boards and 7 assists.
Pacific led, 25-20, after one quarter and 41-34 at the half. G-W cut the margin to 59-54 after three quarters but the Tigers outscored the Bulldogs, 25-23, in the final 10 minutes to hold on for the win.
The winners made 8 3-pointers; G-W made 4. Pacific shot 24-of-32 from the charity stripe, the Bulldogs were 17-of-29.
Gardner-Webb hosts Liberty University Wednesday (7 p.m.).
