Pacers comeback against Bulls falls short

pacers logo 2The Indiana Pacers dug a hole, mounted a steady comeback but couldn’t convert at the end, losing to the Bulls, 96-95, Monday night in Chicago.

All-Star forward Paul George took the potential game-winning shot, but tough defense by Bulls’ star Jimmy Butler was enough to force George to badly miss a fadeaway jumper.

George scored 26 points to lead Indiana (6-5), which had won three straight. Monta Ellis tallied 20 points and C.J. Miles added 19.

Derrick Rose scored 23 points for Chicago (7-3) but suffered a sprained left ankle and did not play the final 6 minutes. Butler finished with 17 points and Doug McDermott added 11.

Notes: Rookie center Myles Turner underwent successful surgery Monday afternoon to repair a chip fracture and torn ligament in his left thumb. Turner, who was injured during the Pacers win over Boston last week, is expected to miss six weeks.

The Pacers play at Philadelphia Wednesday night (7 p.m., Fox Sports Indiana).
