Richmond seeks semistate title

IHSAA Logo 1Only one Connersville-area school is among the 16 left playing in the 105th annual IHSAA boy’s basketball tournament, which resumes today with semistate championship games at four locations.

The Richmond Red Devils will try to knock off the state’s No. 1-ranked team, Evansville Reitz, in the Class 4A title game at Seymour (3 p.m.). Richmond, rated 10th in the final AP poll, is 26-3. The Panthers are 28-1, losing only a road game to Southport, 88-80. Barr-Reeve (25-2) and Clay City (24-4) play for the 1A semistate crown at Seymour (1 p.m.).

A school familiar with some Connersville fans will play for its fifth semistate championship in six seasons — with its sights set on a fourth state title.

Park Tudor (24-2) plays Linton-Stockton (22-6) in a 2A matchup at Southport (4 p.m.). The Panthers won the 2A regional at Spartan Bowl in 2010, 2011 and 2012 under coaches Ed Schilling and April (McDivitt) Schilling, both former players for Connersville, and last year under the direction of coach Kyle Cox.
